What to Expect?
Join a small group of like-minded visitors for a two-hour walking tour of Vitoria-Gasteiz’s medieval old town and historic city centre. We cover the origins of the city, its remarkable medieval architecture, its role in Basque and Spanish history, and the forces that have shaped it across the centuries.
This is not a whistle-stop tour of landmarks. We stop, look and talk: about what we are seeing, why it was built, what happened here, and what it can tell us about the history of the Basque Country. Questions are encouraged throughout.
Good to Know
- The morning tour starts at 10:00 a.m. The evening tour starts at 5:30 p.m.
- Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The old town has cobbled streets and some uneven ground.
- Tours run in light rain. Please bring a waterproof jacket. In the event of severe weather, you will be contacted directly the evening before to arrange a rebook or full refund.
Cancellations made more than 24 hours before your tour start time receive a full refund.

Are tours suitable for children?
Tours are designed primarily for adults with an interest in history. If you are travelling with children, please get in touch and we can discuss whether the tour is a good fit.
What happens if it rains?
Tours run in light rain, so a waterproof jacket is always a good idea. Vitoria-Gasteiz is in northern Spain and the weather is famously changeable. In the event of severe weather, Niall will contact you the evening before to discuss our options.
Can I book for a large group?
Tours are capped at eight people to maintain the quality of the experience. If your group is larger than eight, please get in touch to discuss options.
Do you offer tours in Spanish?
All tours are currently conducted in English. If you are interested in a Spanish-language option, please get in touch as this is something we hope to offer in the future.
